This year marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Your local Pennsylvania PBS stations offer a variety of TV and radio programs that reflect how the events of September 11, 2001, continue to resonate nationally and within our communities. These programs can be resources for you as you discuss this event and anniversary with your students.

Radio - Flight 93 retrospective:

TV - “9/11 Kids” airing September 9 at 9pm. A documentary about a unique group of Americans: the 16 young people who were with President Bush in a Florida classroom on the morning of September 11, 2001, as the president received the news of the attack.

TV Programs airing on your local Pennsylvania PBS station this month include:

  • "In the Shadow of 9/11"- this film tells the story of the so-called 'Liberty City Seven', a group of young Black men accused of assisting Al Qaeda in a plot to blow up buildings within the United States.
  • "Generation 9/11" - this documentary marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks by following the children born to fathers who perished in the disaster
  • PBS NewsHour: Segments starting Labor Day including livestream of the 9/11 ceremonies

The 9/11 Memorial "Teardrop" sits directly across from NYC, in Bayonne New Jersey, just the other side of the Statue of Liberty, yet we hear nothing about it. This absolutely beautiful, 100 ft. tall monument was gifted to the people of the United States by the people of Russia in 2006, in memory of all those who lost their lives on that fateful day, September 11, 2001.

The breaking in the cracked facade forms the shape of the two towers. The giant suspended teardrop signifies the tears of the entire world that day.
