Discovery Education: IS JUST GETTING BETTER!!!  Summer in Person Training being offered on July 21, 2021 Sign up on MLP

As many of you already know, the Discovery Education Experience provides standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, unique collaboration tools, and professional learning resources to all educators in IU13. DEX has recently added additional partnerships that extend DE’s reach into other areas of STEM education.

  • (Currently we have now) DE’s Mystery Science has easy-to-use, quick five- and fifteen-minutes and standards-aligned core lessons allow teachers to prep in minutes with the flexibility to integrate science into busy schedules and support hands-on learning in person or at a distance.
  • (Currently we have now) STEM Connect is DE’s K-8 disciplinary resource that blends dynamic digital content with ready-to-use lessons, compelling career connections, and embedded teacher support.
  • (We just received this to our license on 5/11/21) DE Coding provides students with a secure understanding of coding concepts, like algorithms, sequences and variables, and develops critical computational thinking skills through decomposition, logical reasoning, and imaginative problem solving.
  • Summer Updates Giovanna attended a Sneak Peek webinar of what DE is changing and adding for next year: Click here to see what is coming soon
          • Video Player with New Functionality
          • New Quiz Tools
          • Differentiation & Accessibility Tools
          • New ready to use activities for teachers
          • New updates to Studio (build interactive slideshow , or use the premade ones and edit)
          • Back to School Updates from Discovery Education Summary

Kahoot! Have you used this recently? 6 Reasons to try out Kahoot again!

Looking for something interactive for your students during this last month. For those of you that teach K-8th grade please do not forget about the bank of interactive Google Slides that I have been collecting the last two years. Go here to access all the materials

Finally, some tools that was shared with me by our own IU13 staff:

From our SEC Tech Coach- Giovanna Chamberlain: Clarendon Learning Lesson Plans  and Slidesmania Rewards for Online Learning Slide Template and if you love Slidesmania as much as Giovanna does, check out Iconsmania

From Alex Rutt, ES teacher: StoryBook That  and Legends of Learning

From Mike Hamersky, ES teacher: Pear Deck is an extension that can be used with Google Slides. Once you download the Pear Deck extension there are numerous free slide templates that you can add to your own presentation. You can add these pre-made slide templates or make entirely custom interactive slides. You can search the templates by subject area on the Pear Deck website.

Look on the right hand side of this Blog post for our final prize give-a-way. Could it be you? SECs or Program Designee will be nominating staff or classes each month and the winner or winners will be randomly selected using Wheel of Names. Good Luck!
