Thank you Letter from Charity:water

Posted by Lori Blantz on Sep 12, 2023 7:30:00 AM

Last year our IU13 Centerbased teacher, Ms. Andi Fellows, work with our emotional support students located at the four IU13 centers to learn about water conservation and how some places do not have water as accessible as we do. Through their lessons the students created Rain Barrels to sell and raised $1,225.00. Last week Ms. Fellows received a thank you letter from the organziation. Hats off to our students for such an amazing gift of water they provided to an estimated 31 people.

Hi andrea_fellows, we have a follow-up message for you!

Hello Andrea,

It was such a joy and surprise to receive your letter and photos from the IU13 students! Their rain barrels made from recycled materials look amazing - what a creative way to raise awareness about the water crisis and collect funds for charity: water.

I am sending a printed Thank You recognition that you can hang in your classroom, along with a handful of charity: water stickers to surprise the students. I'll get this in the mail today, so check your school mailbox next week!

The impact of your donation is far-reaching. $40 is the average cost per person to build a charity: water project. That includes funds for sanitation, hygiene training, and our partner's existing maintenance models. The technologies we fund depend on the region, the local culture and the program of our local implementing partner.

With IU13's gift of $1,225, this will bring clean water to an estimated 31 people - truly, amazing! That equates to several classrooms of students who will no longer have to walk to collect dirty water. Instead, they can have better attendance at school, help their families, start businesses, and enjoy health and hope for the future!

I'd like to share with you a story of a school community whose lives were transformed once they received access to clean water. The story, photos, and video (at the end) are here "Between Heaven and Earth."

In addition, if you wanted to incorporate more about the water crisis and how your students' funds are helping people around the world, please check out "The Journey" series here: https://www.charitywater.org/stories/journey-activities. Our Creative Director, Tyler, visits 4 different countries to explore the water issues, how communities get involved, and how our local partners can make such a difference. The videos are short and impactful - and a wonderful addition to your curriculum if you'd like to us them.

Please stay in touch and let me know how you're doing. I also present (virtually) to classrooms in 30-minute presentations to share about the water crisis, charity: water, and how people can get involved. My favorite part is Q&A at the end! Let me know if you'd be interested in having me virtually visit your classroom!

Keep up the great work with your students - and enjoy the 3-day weekend, Ms. Fellows!

Very best,
Kathy
