STEM Maker Space Items needed for classroom lessons

Posted by Lori Blantz on Jan 8, 2019 8:00:00 AM

This school year I have been working in ECSES classrooms to implement STEM lessons for our students. I have taught lessons in 9 classes over the first nine weeks of school and am currently on week 4 for another 10 classes. I will be ending the last 9 weeks of this school year working with another 10 more classes. If you are interested in learning how to get involved with these STEM lessons for the 19-20 school year please let your supervisor know or contact me directly. Throughout my lessons I have been collecting all kinds or materials. I am working to set up a Maker Space room that next year teachers can take out items to use in their classes. I am needing donations to start this project. For the months of January and February items I am looking to collect are:

  • plastic caps from bottles (any sizes, ex. milk jug caps, yogurt cup lids, soda bottle caps)
  • pill bottles with labels removed
  • empty thread spools
  • CDs that you are no longer using
  • oatmeal containers, coffee cans, or any container that can be made into a drum
  • shoe boxes
  • baby food jars with lids
  • wooden skewers
  • plastic wrap
  • small mirrors
  • pizza boxes
  • aluminum foil
  • Styrofoam
  • cardboard
  • metal washers

If you can help donate these items that you might have around the house instead of throwing them out, please bring in either to One Cumberland or Burle and place in the large plastic container labeled "Lori Blantz STEM Maker Space Items" or drop off near my desk location at Burle. I really appreciate the help and if you are interested in implementing these types of lessons in your classroom next year please let your supervisor or myself know. Thank you. - Lori Blantz lori_blantz@iu13.org
