Kindness Rocks 3D Printing Project

Social Emotional Learning

Learn things like:

  • What is a kindness rock?

Think of the cheerfully painted rocks the neighbors might have placed in your front yard as a kind gesture. These “rocks” however are 3D printed by students using a 3D modeling design program. Students will make these rocks for a buddy class in the building.

  • What skills will my students develop through this activity?

Students will learn the fundamentals of a 3D modeling program called Tinkercad. Students will also learn how to run a 3D printer. The skills students will develop and practice include empathizing with others, executive functioning skills, creativity, communication, attention to detail, measurement, problem solving, persistence, growth mindset…and more!

  • Sounds great! I don’t have the tools or know how to use them. What can I do?

Reach out to Giovanna_Chamberlain@iu13.org to schedule a pre-lesson meeting. Together you will determine a schedule that works for you and class. Giovanna will come in and lead the instruction for this project with you and for your students.
