How do you celebrate Valentines Day?

Posted by Lori Blantz on Feb 9, 2022 8:55:30 AM

Do you send roses? Do you send or create a card? What do people do in Japan? What about France ? Here is a short lesson on Valentine's Day Traditions around the world to talk with your students about and then a digital or print out for comprehension.  This is from Christa Joy creator of Special Needs for Special Kids.

There is no book that goes with this activity, but I did include some background information below to discuss with your students.

Just CLICK HERE to download it (includes a link to the digital version.)

Here is a little bit of information about each tradition:
• Argentina: Celebrates a week of sweetness in July.
• France: Where the first Valentine’s Day card came from. They have elaborate decorations and celebrations.
• South Korea: Celebrate a day of love on the 14th of EVERY month, each month with a different theme.
• Philippines: February 14 is a day of marriage and sponsored by the government as a public event.
• Ghana: February 14 is National Chocolate Day. Ghana is one of the largest cocoa-producing countries in the world.
• Bulgaria: February 14 is a day of winemakers. Young and old couples celebrate with local wines.
• Wales: Celebrate Valentine’s Day on January 25 and exchange beautiful, handcrafted wooden spoons.
• Denmark: In Denmark, couples exchange handmade cards with pressed white flowers inside called snowdrops.
• Japan: In Japan, only the women give gifts to the men. Men do not return the gift-giving until March 14.
