 The Governor’s STEM Competition or Logo Competition!

Here is a brief  history of the IU13’s Governor’s STEM Competition participation:

2019-2020

  • Andrea Fellows and her center-based Emotional Support Class from Fairland entered the Governor’s STEM Competition making them the first Special Education class to ever participate in the statewide competition! Click here to learn more about their project called the Shower-Ability Helper.

2020-2021

  • Jim Snyder and his IU13 Emotional Support Classroom at Lampeter Strasburg  HS participated in the Governor’s STEM Logo Competition. Their logos were selected and included on participant t-shirts, brochures, and other competition marketing materials. Check out the Google Slide on class logos created.
  • Andrea Fellows and her IU13 center-based Emotional Support Class at Fairland entered the Governor’s STEM competition for the second year in a row and earned an honorable mention in the statewide competition. Click here to watch a creative infomercial introducing the project to the judges. 
  • Janice Beitzel and her IU13 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Class at Warwick High School entered the competition for the first time and earned the position of 3rd runner-up in the statewide competition. Click here to learn more about their project called the Communication Desk. 

2022-2023

  • Derick Tilburg and his IU13 Emotional Support Class at Central Education Center entered the competition for the first time and received an honorable mention! This class worked to find a solution to commercial vehicle parking. The team created an app that would allow truck drivers to reserve parking, access amenities with QR codes, and more! 2023-2024 Governor’s STEM Competition

Important details:2023-2024 Governor’s STEM Logo Competition

We’re excited to share that the Governor’s STEM Competition registration is now open!  This is the 10th year for Governor’s STEM. You can find the details for the competition, including all the important dates and the registration link on this Smore from PaTTAN. Registration is open through December 12th. The competition is open to students in Grades 9-12 in teams of up to 5. (The entire class can participate but only 5 can present at the final competition)

This year’s competition will have two participation options:

Option A: STEM Prototype with Digital Poster

  • Each team receives a $600 stipend
  • This option is for those who wish to have the opportunity to participate in-person at the State Finals on May 8th.
  • STEM Prototype with Digital Poster Scoring Components:

Written Proposal, Video Presentation, Digital Poster

Project Submissions will, again, be in two divisions:

Division 1: Those who competed in the state competition in the last 5 years.

Division 2: Those who have not competed in the state competition in the last five years.Top 20 will advance to the State Finals at PaTTAN Harrisburg

Option B: Digital Poster

This option is for the purpose of creating a Digital Poster to demonstrate the scientific and engineering process students engaged in while developing and designing their school’s STEM class, program, or club.

  • This option is for those teams who do not wish to participate in person.

School teams will submit these posters digitally – they will be printed by 

PaTTAN, displayed at finals, then mailed to the teams.

  • NO formal judging will occur for poster submissions, however digital badges and Certificates of Participation will be provided to participating teams.
  • Maximum of 5 students are permitted to work and submit a poster.
  • Approved mentors are not permitted to contribute to the development or creation of the digital components for the team’s poster.

2023-2024 Governor’s STEM Logo Competition

Additionally, the Logo Competition is also open to 9-12th grade students.  You can find the details regarding the logo competition in this Smore. The logo submissions are also due by December 12, 2023 at 9:00 PM.
