As I travel around our schools conducting safety and security assessments I believe it is fair to say that we are quickly getting to the point where every reasonable piece of hardware and technology we could access for school safety will have been installed. The reality is we walk a fine line between security and community access and our society is not yet ready to make our schools look like maximum security prisons (and we shouldn't at this point in time).

In cooperation with Susquehanna EMS and East Hempfield Police Department we are pleased to announce the STOP THE BLEED initiative is coming to Lancaster and Lebanon on April 7, 2018 at the IU13 Conference Center located at 1020 New Holland Ave. Lancaster, PA. While we may not be able to stop all school violence (or serious accidents) we can train our staff and students to help save lives by stopping the severe bleeding related to weapons or serious injuries.

Most of us visit the web everyday whether for school, work or fun. But have ever visited the DARK WEB? Unlike the web that we know the dark web is a place you do not want to visit; and you don't want your students or kids in your life to visit it either.

Everyday elementary students spill out onto our school playgrounds for that much needed exercise and chance to just be kids at recess. And everyday school staff go outside with them. But what exactly is the school staff doing? Are they really effectively monitoring the student's activities or simply available if a problem arises? This morning Americas woke-up to the news of a Las Vegas mass shooting. This is the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. It is hard to imagine being a part of that crowd last evening as they attempted to flee while shots rained down on them from 32 floors above. While these events are tragic and the human cost is to great…we can learn from them.
