Discovery Education Summer PD session

Posted by Lori Blantz on May 2, 2023 7:45:00 AM

I am very excited about our Discovery Education summer PD session on August 3, 2023. This is one session you will not want to miss. I just finished connecting with our DE trainer that will be facilitating the session. That is corret...this session will be facilitated by a DE trainer and will be designed for Special Education educators. I told her all about our programs and how some use the DE resources to share infront of the room whole group, and some assign directly to students. This will be a learn and explore session where we will be taking time to dive into the program between learning about Ready to use Activities, Studio Boards, Career Exploration, Virtual Field Trips, SEL actiivites, and a whole lot more!

Hope to see you on August 3rd. Sign up on MLP. Go to the District Catalog.

May Resources

  • Cinco de Mayo Channel – Learn about the historical significance of Cinco de Mayo with activities for all grade bands! Try out this Studio board for K-2 students that allows them to learn about Cinco de Mayo while practicing foundational math and ELA skills.
  • May 6th is National Space Day! There are so many out of this world resources in the Explore Space Channel. Have your students look at an image from the Windows on Earth series and pair it with the Instructional Strategy called Eye Spy to help them find deeper meaning of what’s happening through questioning what they see.
  • The May Activity Calendars for K-2 and 3-5 students are a huge hit for daily ideas – and the Instructional Activity Channel for our 6-12 friends with a more “month-long” idea approach.
  • May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Find a bevy of resources to engage in conversations with students on a number of topics in the SEL Center. The Amazing Me Channel has a new Confident Kit section that helps students analyze the influence of appearance ideals to overcome pressures of these ideals on mental and physical health. Finally, Operation Prevention provides students and families the tools needed to have conversations around substance misuse.
  • Junior Fire Marshal Training Academy prepares Pk-3 students with the essentials of fire safety.

Exploring Discovery Education

  • May’s Feature of the month is Language Versions! Many resources are available in multiple languages. When available, click the Globe icon to access.
  • Professional Learning on Demand covers Differentiating Instruction with a wonderful step-by-step guide!
  • The Spotlight on Instructional Strategy (SOS) of the month is Connect the Dots!
