Computer Science Week Dec 4th-10th

Written by Lori Blantz | Nov 30, 2023 4:12:37 PM

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that Computer Science Week is December 4th-10th. Please celebrate CS by planning for one hour of code activity or some type of CS activity. Remember coding can be done online or unplugged or a combination of both.
Below you will find just a few of the many activities available. Give one a try and enjoy!!!

This year I am sharing some ideas that were presented to me by PA IUs CS Workgroup Team. AI is a huge buzz word, however AI has been around for many years now. It is just presenting itself in different ways in instructional tools. Please review this information and determine what might be useful for your class.  The blue phrases are direct links to the resources.

The Computer Science Workgroup (a subgroup of the STEM PoC group) has spent the last few weeks putting together a collaborative resource to share for CS EdWeek (next week) and Hour of Code which highlights AI resources. It is worth noting that Hour of Code this year has the theme of “Creativity in AI” so a number of the activities there are also AI-focused for those participating.  This resource is really a testament to our collaborative efforts as IUs and I’m excited to share the work that so many collaborated upon.

Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom: Resources for CS EdWeek 2023 contains a collection of resources and lesson activities to support learners in understanding AI, its impacts on society, and connections to programming AI as well across K-12. The document also includes crosswalks between CSTA standards and the STEELS Technology and Engineering standards for educators to reference as they explore how they might use these resources for both CS EdWeek and to support standards. Additionally, several resources include multiple lessons, units, and activities to explore different aspects of artificial intelligence with students on a larger scale that might go beyond CS Edweek.
